I was tidying up some photo albums from a recent European trip and came across this image of a protective plaque in the entrance to Burg Eltz, a 12th Century castle nestled in the hills above the Mosel River in Germany. I love the weathered blue and red (almost pink) of the mosaic against the textured neutrals of the stone and thought it would make a wonderful color scheme in a room full of patina (a 2013 trend).


As you can see in this image, accent metals in either tarnished gold or black would work beautifully with this muted historic color palette.
